The Ultimate Guide to Los Angeles Architecture

house of floyd mayweather

These homes are always imposing, sometimes multi-storied, and always asymmetrical. Since they are inspired by an archaic age where right angles were rare, geometric variety is celebrated. Roofs may incorporate concave eaves and boxed-in porches and windows, sometimes extending for multiple stories. Based loosely on a Western frontier home, Ranch-style houses have the modular simplicity of modernist homes with the “down-home” feel of a traditional 19th-century homestead. It is a truly American style, originating in the 20s but becoming popular from the 40s to 70s.

Entertainment Spaces

Decks line the top two levels, overlooking a patio with a pool, spa, and a private dock that can store a 100-foot boat. Traditional residences incorporate ingredients from earlier architectural styles like Craftsman, American Colonial, and Tudor. The Traditional style is typified by simple, unadorned facades and low or intermediate pitched roofs, usually with at least one front-facing gable or hip and a large chimney. These home exteriors are often surfaced in more than one material, with metal contrasting with wood or painted stucco.

Imagine waking up to the sight of dolphins playing in the water – this is not a dream, but everyday reality at Mayweather’s Sunny Isles Beach abode. His education in the sport, honed under the watchful eyes of a family steeped in boxing history, laid the foundation for a career replete with highlights. Mayweather’s journey, marked by an unbeaten record and numerous world titles across multiple weight classes, is not just a tale of athletic prowess but also of strategic brilliance. One of the world’s wealthiest athletes, Floyd “Money” Mayweather went 50-0 during his boxing career, with lucrative pay-per-view victories over Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Conor McGregor. Earlier this year, he came out of retirement to fight YouTube personality Logan Paul in an exhibition bout. It has a private dock, a pool, a hot tub, a stone deck, huge terraces and parking for 10 cars, according to the listing.

When placed alongside other celebrity homes in Miami, Mayweather’s mansion stands out for its unique blend of grandeur and personal style. While others boast size and opulence, Mayweather’s home adds a layer of personalization, making it not just a house, but a reflection of the man himself. In the living areas, Mayweather has struck a perfect balance between comfort and style.

Watch the Petersen Museum's massive renovation in this time-lapse video

But it’s reality for one of the few athletes to ever make $1 billion — retired boxer Floyd Mayweather. According to Forbes, he earned that much in prize money alone during his professional career. That doesn’t even include his significant number of sponsorships and the money he has made from his own companies.

Often prized by Hollywood stars and producers, these comfortable but charming homes are characterized by earthy styles, stucco exteriors, red-tiled roofs, exterior stairways, and verandas. Their key motif is the arch, as decorative edging, around windows or often framing an elegant entranceway or portico. They are based on a style originating with the Spanish colonials in the sixteenth century and re-popularized by the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. The boom period for this architectural mode was the 1920s and 30s, as Hollywood hit its stride, and the demand for stylish residences grew. Nestled on the illustrious Palm Island, this architectural masterpiece sprawls over 11,000 square feet, boasting an awe-inspiring 5,000-square-foot rooftop deck.

A modern variant might include gabled dormers on the upper floor and decorative porticos with Greek or Roman-style columns. What follows is a detailed look at each of the predominant architectural styles of homes in Los Angeles. The suburbanization of Los Angeles characterizes the postwar period's prosperity (from 1945 to the recession of 1973). These styles were relatively inexpensive to construct, and their simplicity and utility met the needs of the burgeoning middle class.

Floyd Mayweather’s mansion in Sunny Isles Beach is more than a home; it’s a beacon of luxury, style, and personal expression. From its strategic location to its bespoke interior design, every aspect of the mansion exudes opulence and sophistication. Yes, Floyd Mayweather owns multiple properties across the United States, including a USD $26 million mansion in Los Angeles. His real estate investments reflect his opulent lifestyle and his savvy in property dealings.

Normandy's provincial homes featured narrow-eave, steep-hipped roofs, with side-facing gables and sometimes an L-shaped plan placing the front door at the junction of the two wings. Dormer windows often project through the eaves, and these rustic-styled homes are finished in stucco, stone, or brick. Stonework window surrounds, louvered shutters, and delicate wrought iron touches are other signatures of this style. Low-pitched gabled roofs are an identifying feature of these homes, which tend to consist of a single floor spread out over a comparatively large floor plan. They are generally asymmetrical in layout and feature large front porches and exposed wooden structural elements.

His property portfolio includes a $26 million house in California with a wine wall and a $10 million Las Vegas mansion. Boxing promoter and former professional boxer Floyd Mayweather dropped $18 million on a Miami Beach mansion last week, The Real Deal first reported. Meanwhile, the kitchen serves as a mood board of white kitchen ideas, from its subtly-hued cabinets to its soothing marble tones that drench the kitchen island.

With a decorated athlete like Mayweather, have you ever wondered how a boxing legend lives? This article features Floyd Mayweather’s $26 million mansion in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. Wooden doors and window shutters, and decorative wrought iron adds to the rustic charm of these homes. Like the Mediterranean Revival style, garden spaces and courtyards blur the distinction between interior or exterior spaces.

After the completion of renovations, the university plans to use it as a residence for distinguished visitors, as well as a setting for seminars and meetings. Market forces including elevated mortgage rates are severely impacting the valley’s real estate market, according to a new study. The estate has a 16,357-square-foot mansion, two guesthouses, a pool house, a small vineyard and an underground garage, according to listing broker Kamran Zand. At Mayweather’s Sunny Isles Beach mansion, every amenity speaks the language of luxury. The private dock, capable of hosting a 100-foot yacht, stands as a symbol of opulence, beckoning the azure waters of Biscayne Bay.

Stucco exteriors are often painted in bright, earthy tones, and flat roofs reflect the excessive summer heat. Roof terraces and balconies are sometimes seen, and there is a definite focus on integrating exterior and interior spaces. Chateauesque, as its name suggests, is a grander and more formal look, borrowing from French medieval castle design. Large homes in this style often have round towers or square turrets surmounted with conical or pyramidal roofs. Inside, sweeping staircases and high-ceilinged interiors add to the splendor of this variant. Modern versions of this style usually keep the low-angled, projecting eaves and large porches, whilst substituting more modern materials, exteriors with light colors, and additional upper floor space.

The 30 most beautiful buildings in Los Angeles

Popular in America between 1915 and 1945, French-inspired styles were popularized by soldiers returning home from the World Wars. French Revival is really a cover-all term for several sub-styles, including Norman Cottage, Chateauesque, and French Eclectic. Owners often incorporate old-world details such as stained glass, stone flagstones, or mullioned windows. Arches and curves add geometric interest to these homes’ exteriors, which often reveal their interior structure. English-styled homes might also incorporate medieval Tudor elements such as exposed structural beams picked out in black against whitewashed walls. This was a typical look in English homes during the reign of the Tudor monarchs between 1485 and 1560.

How much is Floyd Mayweather’s Miami Beach mansion worth?

Craftsman style flourished from about 1905 into the 1930s and remains a very desirable style of residence today. The boom period for this type of housing was 1700 to 1850, and a revival took place from the 1920s to the 1950s. Simple to construct and to extend, the Cape Cod style became popular throughout the US, particularly in the post-war era when the US government launched mortgage programs for returning servicemembers.

It was revived as a style in the UK in the latter half of the 19th century, inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement. Bungalows commonly have wide gabled roofs that extend over large front porches, with large columns propping up exposed eaves. Thus, they are well-suited to areas with sweltering climates and occasional rainstorms. They are usually built over one main story with a smaller second story often incorporate into the roof with a dormer in the front elevation. Windows are often tall and rectangular with multiple panes, and these homes contain at least two stories.

The athlete argued that they’re only looking at the finished product of who he is as inspiration, not the work he put in to get there. This large and lovely home is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also a Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Monument and a California State Landmark. After some devastating damage and a long search for the right buyer, the house was sold and was under renovation.

Mayweather's home is described as a tranquil respite across the water from the city -- a perfect little retirement spot for the undefeated boxer. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. just dropped some major cash on a new place to call home. The retired boxer just purchased a Miami waterfront residence for a cool $7.7 million. Since his sale, the market for waterfront homes on the beach has exploded, with sellers raising asking prices, bidding wars among buyers, and limited inventory. The mansion’s location offers more than just prestigious addresses; it offers an uninterrupted vista of Biscayne Bay’s sparkling waters.

At the time of its founding in 1850, Los Angeles was scarcely more than a semi-lawless pioneer outpost with encampments near the Los Angeles River. The Arch Oboler Gatehouse and Eleanor's Retreat buildings are the only example of desert rubblestone construction, the same style Wright used at Taliesin West in Scottsdale Arizona. The builders sourced materials from the surrounding area to make it feel as if the buildings were an extension of the desert floor thus the "rubblestone" moniker.

"Next door to the Greek club was a pinball parlour, next door was a Greek continental shop, a pizza bar, a kafenio … a card playing Greek coffee place, a meeting place," said Mr Seindanis, reflecting on the past. By the time Nick Seindanis's father arrived in 1954, the Spencer Gulf town already had a thriving Greek community as Australia experienced its second wave of post-war immigration. The migrant story of the Seindanis family is one of the many Nick Seindanis has written about in his recently published book to mark a century of Port Pirie's Greek community.

Cecconi's cavatelli lamb ragù is $14 cheaper, but it's still a very pricey dish, and the flavors just didn't warrant the expense, in my experience. The cavatelli was chewy, overcooked, and only coated with a light layer of the ragù. We were seated next to the wraparound bar in front of one of the doors that opened up to the patio. Soho House took full ownership in 2005, and now there are 13 Cecconi's around the world, stretching from Miami Beach to Mumbai.

Review: Dining at Cecconi's, an Iconic Power Lunch Spot in LA

Over the years, Greektown has introduced a range of cuisines, from barbecue joints to Detroit-favorite pizza shops, and has developed a bustling nightlife scene. If you’re looking for a lively dinner or a walkable bar crawl just outside of downtown Detroit, Greektown is likely your best bet. The only American city with an Arab majority, Dearborn’s dining scene is rich with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurants of various cultures. Here is where you’ll find some of the best Iraqi, Lebanese, Yemeni and Syrian staples in the country, like crisp falafel, creamy hummus, tender shawarma, syrupy knafeh and Turkish coffee. With one of the country’s largest Muslim populations, there's also an increasing number of restaurants serving halal meats, including chain eateries and fast food spots.

Southwest Detroit’s vibrant Latino community has shaped the neighborhood into a destination for some of Michigan’s best Latin cuisine.

Though Mexican food is king here — you’ll find Mexican bakeries, taco trucks and restaurants in Mexicantown and throughout southwest Detroit — there are also a number of Latin American markets and eateries. Think, Salvadoran and Honduran pupusas, Venezuelan arepas, Puerto Rican maduros or sweet plantains and Dominican-style rice and beans. Midtown and its bordering Brush Park neighborhood includes the home of the Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State University. Its bar and dining scene is a melting pot of cuisines with longtime favorites and a host of newer ones.

But the meat was so charred on the outside that it completely overwhelmed the flavor. My parents immigrated to the US from Greece, so a love for octopus is ingrained in me. A great plate can immediately transport me back to childhood summer days spent in tavernas overlooking the Aegean Sea, our table covered in a seafood feast. One of the highlights of our lunch was the extremely kind waiter, who highly recommended we get a pizza — which ended up being the best dish of the day. There was ample seating throughout the airy space, including a nearly empty tented dining area in front of the entrance. Thousand Island dressing, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese on a marble rye.

But in recent years, Los Angeles saw a notable rise in non-Californian operators making the Westward leap by introducing New York, Detroit, and Neapolitan-style pizzas. The result is Los Angeles being a hotspot for excellent pizza dough topped with local ingredients by chefs who obsess over sauce and delicious pies. These three areas are east of downtown Detroit with Jefferson as their common border street.

Extensive research and experimentation went into the Asian-style pizza crust. Served alongside peppadew peppers, which added a kick of heat, the octopus was begging for something to brighten up the plate — whether it be a cooling sauce or a bigger splash of acidity. Cecconi's octopus unfortunately didn't live up to those memories, nor did it come close to some fantastic plates I've had on recent trips to Mexico (Ziggy's octopus in Tulum, I will never forget you). The octopus had a soft texture — no easy feat with such a tricky protein.

Monet's Garden in Giverny Musée Giverny

They are located very close to the Musée des Impressionnismes, to the east of the village of Giverny. This review is completely independent, we visited anonymously and paid our admission in full. Hugues Gall was appointed Director of the Fondation Claude Monet by the Académie des beaux-arts in March 2008.

Giverny and Impressionism

Both in his home, with its prints and Meiji era cat on a cushion, and in the gardens, with the traditional Nippon bridge and cherry blossom trees. If you’re visiting the gardens and house with toddlers, you’ll want to use a baby carrier. This timeless place inspired some of the artist’s finest works, such as Les Nymphéas, a series of almost 300 canvases depicting his garden at Giverny. Considered one of the founders of the Impressionist movement, Claude Monet combined his passion for botany with his love of painting. In 1941, “Sea Side” was sold by a Viennese auction house to a private collector, with proceeds presumably going to the Nazis.

A family estate in the heart of Giverny

The yellow dining room and blue kitchen are particularly memorable, one entirely furnished in bright shades of yellow, the other in tranquil blue. Monet’s studios are complete with reproductions of his paintings, and bedrooms are also open for public viewing. Monet painted in his garden as well as out in the world, travelling further afield for extended painting campaigns. Through his letters, he kept a close eye on his family and his flowers. Frequent visits by his friends and admirers made Giverny the centre of his life. Until his death in 1926, this artist, father, gardener and man never truly left Giverny.

Meules à Giverny is one of only a handful of works by Monet featuring the motif of a haystack in the French countryside to come to auction in recent years. Five years ago, another haystack painting by Monet, Meules (1890), sold for $110.7m at Sotheby's New York during the May sales, setting an artist record and the highest price for any work by an Impressionist at auction. April marks the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition in Paris; Monet’s painting Impression, Sunrise (1872) lent its name to the movement. These activities are designed to give you the most authentic experiences around where you're staying.

This room later became a sitting room where coffee was served, furnished with English-style cane chairs and surrounded by photographs, personal items and paintings by Monet. Whether you're a dedicated admirer of Monet or a newly initiated fan, exploring the house and peaceful gardens will give you an especially intimate sense of the place that inspired so much of Monet's work. We strolled around the famous Jardin d’Eau or Bassin aux Nymphéas, where many of these wonders float at the bottom of the pond.

Luxurious Boutiques in Paris

We’re off to explore this enchanting garden in bloom all year round, the challenge Claude Monet set himself when he planted all these different species. As you stroll through his home, you’re sure to notice Claude Monet’s impressive collection of Japanese prints. Are you familiar with these artistic images, printed on paper using a relief or intaglio matrix?

Forget the Gardens: The Best Part of Giverny Is Monet's Kitchen

President Richard M. Nixon, Americans could claim tax deductions for their contributions to charities and this in turn aided the preservation of France's architectural heritage. As one of the most visited tourist destinations in France, strategies around ensuring long term protection for the garden are observed as a matter of protocol. The Fondation Claude Monet was created in 1980 as the estate was declared public. It soon became very successful and now welcomes both French and international visitors from April to November. And the final room upstairs is the bedroom of Blanche Hoschedé-Monet, which was opened to the public for the first time in 2014.

Start of the tour: from family home to open-air exhibition space

The artist has also depicted this charming green bridge in some of his paintings. He chooses an oriental atmosphere to welcome his guests on a regular basis. The Clos-Normand was modelled after Monet's own artistic vision when he settled in Giverny. He spent years transforming the garden into a living en plein air painting, planting thousands of flowers in straight-lined patterns. When he created the Clos Normand he transferred all his knowledge about color, light, and perspective from his paintings to his garden.

An introduction to French wine

To visit from Paris by train, get to the Gare St-Lazare train station (metro lines 3, 12, 13, 14) and take the "SNCF" regional train to the Vernon station. A shuttle regularly transports tourists from Vernon to Giverny; you can also take bus #240 to the house and gardens, or take a taxi. A visit to the Fondation Claude Monet, site of the iconic house and gardens, makes for an ideal and convenient day trip from Paris. Be aware however that the Foundation (including the gardens) are closed between November and the end of March. In addition to Japanese cherry, peony, gingko biloba and maple trees, the pretty traditional Japanese bridge was built by Claude Monet in line with the main driveway of Le Clos Normand. Another reference to his taste for the culture of the Land of the Rising Sun!

He created many paintings of his house and gardens, especially of water lilies in the pond, the Japanese bridge, and a weeping willow tree. Restored in the late 1970s, the Giverny house and gardens were Claude Monet’s private sanctuary from 1883 to 1926. Permeated with memories of yesteryear, the pink rendered building and the flower gardens have been perfectly restored to immerse visitors in the artist and gardener’s home setting. Therefore, it is no surprise that visitors of Monet’s House immediately flock to the bridge to see the water lilies. 10 years after moving into the house, the artist decided to create an Asian-influenced water garden.

They kept the artwork until 2023, when the FBI came calling, apparently to take custody of the artwork until the proper ownership could be determined. Schlamp, a Canadian-born physician with a family medicine practice, died on March 4. But according to the federal lawsuit, the small Monet resurfaced in 2016 when it was loaned by a Paris art gallery to an exhibit of Impressionist art elsewhere in France. Soon after, the pastel drawing found its way across the Atlantic to New Orleans, having been sold to the renowned MS Rau Antiques gallery on Royal Street. Monet, who would become one of the most influential figures in all of European art, was just 25 years old in 1865 when he sketched the lonesome image of rocks and distant clouds he observed on the Normandy coast.
